I have a hug for you, would you like it?
I think this is brilliant. So many times you see children forced or coerced into giving adults love. That has never felt right to me. We are here for them, we are here to show them how the world works, that things, especially love, should never be forced or pressured. What can a kid possibly say when an adult says, “come over here and kiss me”? They are left with no choice, or they can run away and then they’d get chastised.
My friend Margo is the one who said this recently to our daughter. I was over the moon when she said it. I’ve said it ever since and it is magical, the hugs come with no pressure and with much more love.
